Hilton cheerleaders complete stellar year
The Hilton Varsity Cheerleaders had an outstanding year, taking many first place awards and a couple of Grand Championships. The year started out with a trip to Niagara Falls, Canada to participate in the Festival of Lights Competition. The team performed a three-minute cheer and a two and a half cheer dance routine. They took first place in the Cheer Division, first place in the Cheer Dance Division, first place in the High School Division. They topped the weekend with the Grand Champion Award. Alicia Maier was awarded Most Spirited Cheerleader. The next weekend the team attended the Newark Competition. This time they had to perform two cheers. The team took first place in the Large Varsity Division.
In January they attended several competitions. First was the Victor Creative Cheer Competition. Junior Nicole Dalton placed first in the Junior/Senior Dance Individual and the team placed first in the Large Varsity Division. The next weekend the team went to the Dansville Spirit Challenge and Coach Laurie Miller was awarded the Outstanding Coach Award. The next weekend they went to the Greater Rochester Cheerleading Championship. They were competing in the Large Varsity Advanced Level. The team took first place in this division and was named Grand Champion based on having the highest score all day. This was a first for Hilton Cheerleading.
The next weekend was the Sectional Competition. Hilton was in the A Division and won first place. This is Hilton Cheerleading's second time winning the winter season Sectional. Their Coach Laurie Miller was named Coach of the Year and Natalie Burritt was given the Nancy Saxton Leadership Award.
In February when the All County Recipients were announced, Hilton Varsity had four members on their team named to the team. On First Team All County are Nicole Dalton and Jamie Delgatti, named to Second Team All County are Catharine Gallagher and Randi Roethel. Nineteen members of this team held a grade point average of 90 percent or above.
In March the cheerleaders were allowed to attend a national competition. They received a bid to attend the CANAM International in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The team took third place in the Mega Varsity Division. The team members consist of Jessie Bell, Natalie Burritt, Angela Culmone, Tara Curran, Nicole Dalton, Jamie Delgatti, Katie Donlon, Amanda Farrand, Melanie Friesen, Catharine Gallagher, Tammy Gardner, Stephanie Gebhard, Katrina Gutmann, Carli Harris, Shannon Judd, Nichole Klotzbach, Michelle LeRoy, Alicia Maier, Jennie Maloney, Serena Melvin, Emily O'Coin, Amy Pfeffer, Randi Roethel, and Stephanie Rosenburgh. Laurie Miller coaches them.
