Wasson, Murray lead Brockport
Senior Nate Wasson tossed a four-hit complete game and Jeremy Murray drove in the game's only run in the first inning as Brockport defeated Churchville-Chili 1-0 April 23 at home.
Andy Parrino led of the bottom of the first inning with a walk, stole second and went to third on Colby Jones single to right. Phil St. Amant drew a walk to load the bases before Murray sent a squibbler to the infield. The force play at the plate was late, giving the Blue Devils the only offense they would need.
Wasson struck out seven batters and did not walk anyone in the game. The Saints threatened in the seventh inning when Dan Kurychi led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Craig Ferris who took second on a passed ball. But, Wasson erased the final three batters on a pop-up, an outfield fly and a strikeout to end the game.
Churchville-Chili starting pitcher Dan Phillips was the hard-luck loser, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out six. Brockport upped their record to 7-1 with the victory.
