Overnight walk and candlelight vigil honors local residents lost to cancer

Neighbors, families and friends will come together this spring across the Finger Lakes area for one cause - to fight cancer. Residents will join 3,300 other communities across America in a celebration of survivorship and hope at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The overnight event is the nation's largest grassroots fundraising event and is designed to give everyone an opportunity to honor cancer survivors, remember those who have lost their struggle with cancer and to help contribute to research to find a cure.

The focal points of Relay For Life are the cancer survivors' lap and the luminaria ceremony where hundreds of small candles are placed outside the relay track as a glowing tribute to those who have faced cancer personally. The event continues overnight and concludes the next morning.

One such event is scheduled for June 7-8 at the Spencerport High School soccer field. For information or to register and be a part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, call 1-800-ACS-2345.
