Cody Niver, son of Kevin and Bonnie Niver of Hilton are pleased to announce that their son was selected into the All-County Elementary School Band. Niver is a sixth grade student at Northwood Elementary School, and was the only student selected from Northwood this year to participate in the concert. He plays the alto, tenor and baritone saxophone.
Gavin Hickey, a senior majoring in biology at the University of Rochester, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honorary society. Faculty nominates students to Phi Beta Kappa on the basis of their scholarly achievement, humanistic values, and leadership potential.
Hickey, a graduate of Spencerport High School, is a resident of Spencerport.
Danielle Lashomb of Canal Winchester, Ohio, has been named to the Ohio University dean's list for winter quarter 2001-02. She is a senior majoring in sociology criminology. Danielle, who was once a resident of Spencerport, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Lashomb.
To be named to the list, a student must have earned a grade point average of 3.3 or better on a scale of 4.0 (straight A's) for the quarter and have earned 16 hours, 12 of which were taken for a letter grade.
Several local residents were candidates for baccalaureate degrees at SUNY Oswego's 141st Commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 18.

Hilton native Rachel Ann Read has received a faculty scholarship at Cedarville University (Ohio). Cedarville University awards faculty scholarships to first-year students who have high ACT/SAT scores and a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Read, who is home-schooled, has received top speaker awards in NCFCA speech and debate tournaments. She is the daughter of Jim and Alice Read of Hilton.

James Mitchell Bogdanowic of Spencerport, received a bachelor of science degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy in December 2001.
Melissa Carmen of Rochester was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Alpha, highest honor society for overall academic achievement and voluntary service, at Siena College. Carmen was also inducted into Phi Alpha Theta - international honor society in history, and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Marine Corps Cpl. Jeremy M. Marshall, whose wife, Nicole, is the daughter of Beth Dickinson of North Chili, recently was promoted to his current rank while serving with Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Marshall was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.
Army Pfc. Jason W. Johansen has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles, and traditions.
Johansen is the son of Garland Solt of Spencerport and grandson of Don White of Rochester.
The private is a 2000 graduate of Brockport High School.
Army Reserve Pvt. Christopher P. Dritschel has deployed to a forward operating area to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The private is a civil affairs specialist regularly assigned to the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion in Knoxville, Tennessee.
He is the son of Irene Pickett of Brockport.

Army Pvt. Jason A. Rivers has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia.
The soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
Rivers is the son of Kim Rivers of Rochester.
The soldier graduated from Churchville-Chili High School in 2001.
Marine Corps Sgt. Michael A. Voegel, son of Katie M. Voegel of Spencerport, recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Voegel is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS John F. Kennedy Carrier Battle Group and USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.
While on deployment, he will participate in joint-service, multi-national operations and have the opportunity to visit foreign ports.
He is a 1994 graduate of Mynderse Academy of Seneca Falls, NY and joined the Marine Corps in October 1994.
Marine Corps Pvt. Fidel A. Rodriguez, son of Debra and Jess Markel of Brookedge Drive, Hamlin, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Rodriguez successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
