Knights of Columbus Bike-A-Thon rolls into sixth year
It's time to get the bikes out and pedal down to Hamlin State Park for the sixth annual Hamlin Knights of Columbus - St. Jude's Children's Hospital Bike-A-Thon. This year's charity fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. till noon at Area 3 of Hamlin Beach State Park. Registration will be from 8 a.m. till 8:30 a.m. with the Bike-A-Thon starting at 8:30 a.m. Entrance to the park is free to all participants with the Bike-A-Thon registration form before 8:30 a.m.
Burke's Hardware of Hamlin has agreed to donate the Grand Prizes for the Bike-A-Thon. For the last five years the Burke family has donated a male and a female mountain bike as the prize for the participant that raises and brings in the most pledged money for the charity event. Other prizes include tee shirts, duffel bags, sweatshirts, and a stereo boom box.
This year's competition will have a few new twists. It will include mileage competition that will award the male and female logging the most miles a $25 Wal-Mart money card as a special prize. There will also be a mentor contest that will be open to past participants and volunteers with a $50 merchant certificate being awarded to the past participant mentor and the volunteer mentor that encourages the most participants. Mentors would need to copy the sponsorship form, have their name listed as the sponsor, hand out the signed forms, and encourage participants to solicit pledges.
This year's event will be co-sponsored by the Hamlin Knights of Columbus Council St. Elizabeth Ann Seton #11740 and the Spencerport Knights of Columbus Council St. John XXIII #7707. All proceeds go to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus use their share to aid local non-profit organizations and charitable causes. Food and drink are provided at no cost to participants. There will be several courses as in the past for participants to ride as well as a "kiddie" course for the junior riders. Come and help the Knights support a great cause. For information contact Mark Glogowski at 964-2866.
