Beautification
of Brockport

Last fall, Mayor Josephine Matela and members of the Garden Club of Brockport planted spring bulbs in the Village of Brockport's newly created Remembrance Park, on Park Avenue near South and High Streets. The park was created in memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The bulbs are now in full bloom. Later this spring, the Garden Club of Brockport will plant annuals. Remembrance Park will always have blooming flowers during spring, summer and fall.

The Garden Club has also taken on the responsibility of maintaining the Erie Canal Trail between Park and Main Streets. This project is part of New York state's newly created Adopt-A-Trail Program. The revitalization of the Erie Canal has become a top priority of Governor George Pataki.

Apart from the Adopt-A-Trail program, additional beautification work needs to be done. Anyone wishing to participate in beautification activities may telephone Ute Duncan at 637-8799 or come to the canal by the Main Street Bridge on Wednesday mornings between 9 a.m. and noon.
