Career and Tech Center students place tops in competition
Career and Technical Education Center students, representing Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES component school districts, earned top honors at the New York State Skills USA/VICA (Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America) competition in Syracuse on April 11.
Sixty-five students from the Career and Tech Center were among 2,800 students from trade schools throughout New York State compete in their areas of expertise. First-place winners in the State competition will go on to compete in the Nationals in Kansas City, Missouri, June 24-28.
Students work all year refining their skills in areas such as cosmetology, carpentry, TV/radio broadcasting, culinary arts and welding, as well as leadership competitions like the quiz bowl (a Jeopardy-like game). Skills USA/VICA is a national organization serving a quarter-million high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.
