FIRS selects Monroe County to host International Congress
The Monroe Sports Development Corporation (MCSDC) and the Greater Rochester Visitors Association (GRVA) has announced that Rochester will be the host of the 2002 Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) Semi Annual Congress on Thursday, August 1 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. FIRS is governed by the International Olympic Committee and is the international governing body for figure skating, speedskating, and in line hockey.
USA Roller Sports, the National Governing Body of roller sports, as designated by the United States Olympic Committee, is thrilled about hosting the Congress in conjunction with the Men's and Women's World In-line Hockey Championships. USA Roller Sports Executive Director Lou Marciani said it is an honor to host such a prestigious international event in the United States and Monroe County.
The Monroe Sports Development Corporation (MCSDC) and the Greater Rochester Visitors Association (GRVA) also announced that Rochester will be the host of the 2002 Men's and Women's World In-line Hockey Championships this summer.
USA Roller Sports, the National Governing Body for roller sports, as designated by the United States Olympic Committee, is thrilled about bringing the championships to Rochester and the ESL Sports Centre. The World In-line Hockey Championships will feature teams from all over the world including the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and Japan.
The Women's World In-line Hockey Championships will take place July 17-23. The first two days of the schedule, July 17 and 18, have been set aside for team practices and the actual world competition will begin on July 19.
The Men's World In-line Hockey Championships will take place July 23-August 1 at the ESL Sports Centre. Practice will take place July 23 and 24 with competition beginning on July 25. This is the ninth year for the men's tournament and only the second time it has been held in the United States.
