Funding obtained for Hilton Veterans Memorial
Assembly Republican Leader Charles H. Nesbitt has obtained $5,000 in state funding for the construction of a Veterans Memorial in the Village of Hilton.
"Each year at Memorial Day, it is important to honor the memory of men and women who died defending our freedom. This monument will be a year-round reminder of their sacrifice, and will stand as a memorial to their courage, and dedication," Nesbitt (R-C, Albion) said. "It is rewarding to be able to bring home the funding necessary to support the construction of this monument."
"This monument will serve as a fitting tribute to the brave men and women who served their country with distinction, making the ultimate sacrifices in defense of their fellow Americans and our country's freedom in the process," said Senator George D. Maziarz (R-C, North Tonawanda). "Our fallen veterans are always recognized during Memorial Day ceremonies, but this monument will ensure their selfless courage can be remembered every day."
The funding for the memorial was included in the recently adopted state budget, and will be awarded directly to the Hilton VFW Post 6015 and American Legion Post 788 to begin immediate construction. The Memorial will be constructed in Centennial Park, and shall honor Veterans who died in foreign conflicts.
"The Veterans of Hilton-Parma greatly appreciate the efforts of Assemblyman Nesbitt," Alexander Howe of VFW Post 788 said. "It's nice to know we can count on the continued support from the state through this time of national crisis."
