Hamlin celebrating sesquicentennial celebration with Wheel Fest

This year’s Wheel Fest in Hamlin will combine the annual Fest event with the celebration of the town’s sesquicentennial and the 75th anniversary of the Hamlin Fire Department.

The two-day event kicks off Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at the Hamlin Fireman’s Field on Route 19 and offers free admission, free entertainment and free parking. It runs until 10 p.m. Friday and continues June 1 at 10 a.m. The celebration will close with a fireworks display Saturday at 10 p.m.

There will be displays of antique tractors and bikes, vintage wagons and antique fire trucks. The Pied Piper will spin the tunes Friday from 7-10 p.m. Door prizes, trophies, great country food, crafts, entertainment and a myriad of activities for young and old are planned for this year’s combined celebration.

A petting zoo is being sponsored by Springdale Farms and there will be a kids’ corner with face painting, games and much more, organizers say. A Friday night fish fry and a Saturday chicken barbecue are planned. Weather permitting, a hot air balloon demonstration is scheduled.

The People for Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) will be hosting an adopt-a-pet session from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Visitors to the Wheel Fest will also be able to see demonstrations from the Isshin Ryu Karate Academy and Jeannie’s Dance Connection.

Food booths, crafts and artisan booths as well as business booths and a silent auction are also planned for this year’s celebration.

An auto show, with prizes to be awarded, is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s event will be held on the grounds of the Hamlin Fireman’s Field on Route 19 in Hamlin. See more information in this special section.
