Brockport YMCA offers arts program for children
The Brockport YMCA is offering a summer cultural arts program for local children ages 5 to 11. Local artist Denise Purvis will take children on a multi-cultural adventure, where they will experience art, music, dance, games and many other activities from countries around the world. Through participating in these activities, children will learn about the lives and values of people from many cultures. "Kids love making art, and the process offers children an opportunity to experience the traditions of another culture. They have fun, they learn about others, and they are proud of themselves for creating something unique," states Purvis, program facilitator.
The program is offered in two sessions of one week each. Session I, August 12 to 16, is reserved for children ages 5 to 7. Session II, August 19 to 23, is reserved for children ages 8 to 11. Both sessions will take place from 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Brockport YMCA, 25 Main Street, Brockport. The cost of each session is $45, however financial assistance is available. Pre-registration is required.
