Hilton School District to screen
for speech and language difficulties
The Hilton Central School District Office of Learning Support Services (Special Education) is holding a speech and language screening for the district's three-year-olds on Monday, June 10, in each of the district's three elementary schools: Northwood Elementary School, 433 North Greece Road; Quest Elementary School, 225 West Avenue, Hilton; and the Village Elementary School, 100 School Lane, Hilton. "Parents of three-year-olds should receive a letter describing the process, but in the event that a family is not on the census at this point," Ed Kerkhoven, director of Learning Support Services said, "we encourage that family to call the district at 392-1000 ext. 6054." The screening is expected to take about 15 minutes and therapists will report to parents what was learned. If a child should need a more in-depth evaluation, therapists will direct parents toward further help for their child. "Additionally, to acquaint families with the schools, we will have a school bus stationed in the bus loop of each school so that families can take their child on the bus for a brief tour," Kerkhoven said.
