Two Spencerport High School Juniors have been chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary to represent the Units at the Empire Girls State sessions being held the week of June 29 through July 6 at Union College, Schenectady.

Patricia R. Johnson, of Spencerport, daughter of John and Catherine Johnson, will represent Ferris Goodridge Unit #330. She is a member of the Voice school newspaper, SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), captain of the Varsity Cross Country team, indoor and outdoor track and field, and is a member of Girl Scouts, St. John the Evangelist Youth Group and enjoys clowning.

Sarah Romashko, of Spencerport, daughter of Ronald and Donna Romashko, is a member of National Honor Society, Student Government and French Club and is a member of Girl Scouts and Not-Me-Not-Now, a program about safe sex and abstinence. She will represent the Cottreall Warner Auxiliary 942, Webster.

Both girls will be among the 360 young women from all over the state participating in this program. The Auxiliary believes in training youth about the basic ideals and principles of government. The Auxiliary teaches the women to understand, comprehend and appreciate their roles as citizens there they learn about leadership, teach them proper etiquette and handling of the flag. Citizens will learn about government, conduct campaigns, debate and write legislation. They participate in mock sessions of city, county and state levels and form two political parties and elect officials at the end of the week.
