Rangers sweep
The Spencerport Rangers varsity softball team swept a doubleheader beating Churchville-Chili 9-1 and Greece Athena 10-2 as they made up the final two league games May 23.
In the opener, the Rangers batted around in the third inning while scoring four runs to take a 7-0 lead. Kristina Schweikert tripled to drive in one run, Meghan Gollaher and Kyra Tobin each drove in runs on fielders choices and Chrissy Jackson legged out an infield hit to plate another run. The Rangers finished their scoring with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning.
Amanda Piatek drove in Nikki Torcello in the fifth inning for the Saints' only run. Gollaher tossed a three-hitter for Spencerport, striking out two batters to improve her record to 13-6.
In the nightcap, Athena took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but it was all Rangers after that. Danielle Powers scored on an error in the first inning to tie the game 1-1 before a bases-loaded double by Marisa Neri drove in three of the four runs in the third inning. The Rangers would score four more runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh. Neri finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Schweikert struck out nine batters in picking up her fourth win of the season for Spencerport, who finished the regular season with a 17-7 record, 9-3 in league play.
