Grants fund projects
Monroe County Legislature President Dennis Pelletier (R/C-Ogden) and Legislator Peter N. McCann (R-Hilton) last week announced Community Development Block Grants in Spencerport/Ogden and Hilton.
Pelletier announced that "the funds will provide the residents of the Town of Ogden with an Outdoor Water Sports Program, providing adaptive recreational equipment for persons with special needs on the west side of the county, and the town will administer the program at Widewaters Park on Trimmer Road. Also, the Ogden Senior Center will be making entrance improvements, including railings and porch and ceiling repairs for ADA compliance as well as safety and security reasons. The projects total $36,000."
In Hilton, according to McCann, "the $64,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds will be used on a variety of projects including improvements to a town park in Parma, and the replacement of a concrete pedestrian bridge and observation deck over Salmon Creek in the Village of Hilton, connecting all sections of the park and addressing safety issues."
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the Community Development Block Grant, which Monroe County has received since 1973. Funds are used for projects to benefit lower income families, the elderly and disabled residents. In total, the program will provide over $3 million to our local towns and villages this year.
The Monroe County Legislature approved the submission of CDBG proposals and the acceptance of the program funds on June 11.
