Brockport junior receives
Clarkson University Leadership Award
Michael C. O'Laughlin, a junior at Brockport High School, received the Clarkson University High School Leadership Award at Brockport's Scholarship Reception and Awards Night on June 1. This award, which entitles him to a $36,000 scholarship over four years, is the highest honor at Clarkson University. It recognizes outstanding leadership qualities and academic promise.
Michael has been on high honor roll throughout his high school career and is enrolled in accelerated courses, such as advanced placement physics and American history, honors English, and Project Lead the Way, an engineering program through which he is earning college credit at Rochester Institute of Technology. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, was nominated as Monroe County Citizen of the Year, is student council treasurer, and plays varsity basketball and tennis. Next year, Michael will participate in the 3-1-3 Program, which will allow him to combine his senior year of high school and freshman year of college, earning credit at SUNY Brockport.
When he graduates, Michael plans on studying mechanical engineering and management at Clarkson. He is the son of Dr. Michael and Linda O'Laughlin of Brockport.
