Brockports Code Enforcement
Officer receives commendations
Scott Zarnstorff, Brockports code enforcement officer, was commended for his volunteerism in the recent flooding that took place in Newark.
Zarnstorff is part of a disaster response team comprised of code enforcement officers from across the state who respond to areas affected by disasters. "We are called on for all types of disaster assistance
from floods, to earthquakes to snow and ice storm damage," he said.
The members of the disaster response teams go in and help local officials assess damage to structures and let residents and business owners know whether their homes and buildings are safe to be entered. "We help fill out FEMA forms and reports," he said.
The completion of the Federal Emergency Management Assessment forms helps speed the process of getting funds allocated to areas that are deemed disaster sites, he explained.
Letters of commendation were received by the village board from the Secretary of State and from Village of Newark officials relaying their thanks for the assistance that Zarnstorff provided.
During the June 17 meeting, Zarnstorff provided board members with his monthly reports and indicated his office had completed 94 inspections in the month of May and had done more than 270 inspections since the beginning of the year. "Were on pace to do more than 100 inspections this month," he said.
Zarnstorff and Police Chief Daniel Varrenti have also been working on updating an appearance ticket for code and safety violations with specifications for code enforcement issues.
