Chief involved in rear-end collision
Brockport's Police Chief Daniel Varrenti accepted full blame for a June 19 collision. "I was driving down Main Street and was looking down Clark Street, a car stopped in front of me and I couldn't stop in time," Varrenti said. "No one was hurt."
Varrenti was southbound on Main Street in his unmarked police car when the accident happened, he said.
As a result of the accident, Varrenti said he wrote a memorandum to village officials explaining the incident and taking full responsibility for it. "I accepted full responsibility and apologized for any inconvenience caused," he said.
In addition, Varrenti released a memo to his officers. "An open, honest relationship with my officers begins with me so the responsibility has to start with me."
The vehicle, whose driver Varrenti declined to name, sustained more than $3,000 damage.
