Can-imals will be on parade during Street Fair
Brockport Street Fair promoters are "calling all artists" to enter the canned-good sculpture contest taking place during the Street Fair.
The contest is the result of combined efforts between Girl Scouts and Cool Kids and will help combat hunger in the community. Organizers say in the summer months, food supplies dwindle rapidly and that is the time the needs are the greatest. "Many of the kids that benefited from the school lunch program are home," they said.
The Can-imals canned goods sculpting contest will take place on Main Street on Friday, July 12. The streets are shut down for three days during the Street Fair and participating sculpting teams are asked to show up armed with at least 700 cans and build animal themed sculptures on designated sites on Main Street.
Theme suggestions for the sculptures are: What a jungle; A whale of a time; Bee cool; American eagle; Dog days of summer. The only requirement to enter is the collection of the 700 cans of food, non-perishable food items, cleaning goods or hygiene products.
Registration for the event begins at 7 a.m., can drop offs are scheduled from 7-8:30 a.m. with construction beginning at 9 a.m.
Can-imal sculpture judging begins at 5 p.m. with winners announced after the final votes are tallied. Winners will be announced in the "most cans collected category" and the "coolest/most creative" category.
The sculpture contest is open to everyone. Call Angela Tozer at 637-5169 for information.
