Jackie Finn, communication specialist at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, has received the 2002 PRism Award for Photography from the Rochester Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The award ceremony was held on June 20 at the Rochester Museum and Science Center.

The winning photograph was of two Churchville-Chili fourth-graders learning to quilt under the guidance of a visiting artist. Finn also received Honorable Mention for her photograph of a student pledging allegiance to the flag.

Finn, of Chili, has provided communication services to the Churchville-Chili Central School District for four years. This is her second PRism Award for photography.


Nicole Becker graduated from Hougton College in May. She majored in elementary education with a second major in psychology.


Michelle L. McAndrews received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Dayton on May 5.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael McAndrews of Spencerport.


The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. honored three girls from Spencerport with the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, on Sunday, June 23. The Gold Award symbolizes outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning, and personal development.

Amanda Bischoping, Amy Grammatico and Carolyn Sousa (Girl Scout Troop 580, Spencerport Service Unit) directed "Let's Play!" A Children's Summer Theatre Program, which introduced children in Spencerport to all aspects of the theatre. They planned, advertised, recruited volunteers and performed "The Wizard of Oz" for a live audience. The project involved designing costumes, makeup, scenery, props, and music, rehearsing and performing.


Local residents have been named to the dean's list at Canisius College for the spring '02 semester.

Katie Boetcher, of Harwood Road, Spencerport, is a sophomore communication studies major.

Nicole Keehley, of Ronald Circle, Spencerport, awarded Academic Merit, is a senior psychology criminal justice major.

Daniel Surdyk, of Spencerport, is a junior bioinformatics major.


Hamlin resident Chelsea E. Matsko has been named to the dean's list for the 2002 spring semester at Messiah College. Matsko, a senior biology major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Matsko, of Hamlin. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Matsko is a 1998 home school graduate.


Spencerport resident Gavin D. Roach has been named to the dean's list for the 2002 spring semester at Messiah College. Roach, a senior music major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger D. Roach, Spencerport. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Roach is a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Rochester resident Christine J. Mahle has been named to the dean's list for the 2002 spring semester at Messiah College. Mahle, a senior elementary education major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mahle, Rochester. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Mahle is a 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


North Chili resident Aaron M. Faro has been named to the dean's list for the 2002 spring semester at Messiah College. Faro, a junior sport and exercise science major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. Faro, North Chili. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale. Faro is a 1999 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School.


Spencerport resident Amy Knight was named to the dean's list with distinction for the spring 2002 semester at Grove City College.

The elementary education major is a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Knight.


Gregg Chalmers has been elected as the newest member of the Easter Seals New York - Western Region's Operational Board of Directors. Chalmers, a Churchville area resident, has been associated with Easter Seals for the past seven years, serving as head coach of the agency's Rochester Rookies Jr. Wheelchair Track and Field Team. He has also been aligned with Easter Seal's Planning Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors, Tri-State Wheelchair Athletic Association as well as the Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association. Vice president/operations, Siewert Equipment Company, Chalmers is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and holds a master of science degree in business management as well as a master of science degree in human resource development.


Sara Speer, daughter of Brian and Betsy Speer, Collamer Road, Hilton, has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at Keuka College. Speer, a freshman, is studying special education and American sign language.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.

Speer earned an overall 3.67 average during her freshman year and is working this summer at the Mary Cariola Children's Center.


Renee Stickles of Brockport was awarded a bachelor of arts degree summa cum laude at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 11. Stickles majored in criminal justice and completed minors in risk management and management information systems.

Stickles also was named to the dean's and president's lists for the fall 2001 and spring 2002 semesters. While at Gannon, Renee was inducted in Phi Eta Sigma honor society, was a member of the Criminal Justice Fraternity and the Risk Management Club, played softball all four years, and held a job in the Campus Services Office. She also participated in many volunteer activities. She has accepted a position as a risk analyst for an insurance brokerage.

Stickles is the daughter of Al and Marcy Stickles and a graduate of Brockport High School.


Vivian Cook-Johnson has been named Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP) by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP).

Cook-Johnson has been an admissions representatives at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development (CWD) Student Center for one and one-half years. She is responsible for meeting with adult clients, and provides individual counseling for career/vocational training opportunities. Cook-Johnson assists her clients in developing a plan that provides gainful employment and career opportunities. As a member of the CWD Admissions Team, she helps to facilitate the recruitment, assessment, enrollment, funding, and orientation process for each adult client.


Donald Lehman, of Creekside Lane, Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for six straight quarters at Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a third year student in the School of Design studying Industrial Design. Currently he is spending the summer in Manhattan and is interning with Benza Design in Brooklyn. Benza designs, manufactures, and distributes contemporary home and office accessories.

Lehman is the son of Stan and Sharon Lehman of Creekside Lane and is a 2000 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Thirteen student pianists from the studio of Barbara Woods in Spencerport performed in the New York State Music Teachers Association Greater Rochester District Student Achievement program in May and received certificates for their accomplishments. The program consists of evaluations in keyboard skills, written theory, and piano performance. Those participating were Andrew Callan, Tessa Fox, Vy Dihn, Steven Burek, Nathaniel Heale, Melissa Heale, Jennifer Smith, Justine Locke, Jennie Trenton and Stacey Baumler. Three high school students competed in the high school honors division: Ben Heale, Sabrina Agro and Yonghee Cho.


Meagan Elizabeth Myers of Parma View Drive, Hilton, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester. To be recognized, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.25, carrying a minimum of six credits.


The following students were named to the dean's list of St. Bonaventure University for the spring 2002 semester. A student must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.25 in order to qualify.

Robert W. Dermody, a sophomore undeclared business major, of Rochester. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary L. Dermody.

Lucas F. Fink, a senior political science major, of Bergen. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary C. Fink.

Heather L. Hossenlopp, a senior education major, of Spencerport. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hossenlopp.

Shannon J. Luce, a senior education major, of Brockport. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Luce, Jr.

Gregory C. Mahns, a sophomore biology major, of Hilton. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin G. Mahns.

Holly C. Maar, a senior education major, of Brockport. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald C. Maar.

Katherine E. Petit, a sophomore physical education major, of Spencerport. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Petit.

The following students enrolled in Syracuse University's School of Architecture were named to the dean's list for the 2002 spring semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve at least a 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in 15 credit hours taken on campus (or at the Florence, Italy, campus) or achieve a 3.5 grade point average in 12 to 14 credit hours taken on campus or in Florence during the semester.

Adam McWilliams, Gillett Road, Spencerport. McWilliams is a junior majoring in architecture.

Peter Hantes, Ironstone Drive, Rochester. Hantes is a senior majoring in architecture.


Michael Murphy, son of Dale and Sherry Murphy, graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a bachelor's degree in science. He will be attending the University of Rochester in the fall to work on his master's degree.


Hannah Stenglein, daughter of Bill and Denise Stenglein of Churchville has been named to the spring 2002 dean's list at Keuka College. Stenglein, a freshman, is double majoring in American sign language and elementary education.

A Keuka College student must have earned at least a 3.50 grade-point average for each block of at least 12 semester credit hours to be eligible for the dean's list.


Daniel T. Guild earned his bachelor of science degree in animal science from Cornell University May 26. Guild is a 1998 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Guild of Sand Pebble Drive in Chili.


Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Ryan M. Corcoran, a 2001 graduate of Hilton Central High School, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.


Navy Lt. Tyler J. Gleason, son of Sheila M. and James P. Gleason of Hamlin Parma Townline Road, Hilton, departed on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to Sea Control Squadron 30, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.

Gleason is a 1991 graduate of Aquinas Institute of Rochester and joined the Navy in November 1997. He is a 1995 graduate of Canisius College, with a bachelor of arts degree.
