Fire, code enforcement officer file monthly reports
Brockport Fire Chief Gregory Wing reported that since the department has installed career staff, only seven fire and/or ambulance calls have had to be "given away" to other departments for assistance. Prior to the career staff being appointed, more than 50 calls were given away.
He also reported that with the way newer vehicles are built, whenever there is an ambulance called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident, the fire department will also be dispatched. "The new crumple zones in the cars usually mean when there is a front end collision there will also be a release of vehicle fluids," he explained.
Wing said there have been 719 ambulance calls year to date. Of those calls, 197 were for the village, 216 for Clarkson, 253 for Sweden, 28 to SUNY Brockport and 14 were mutual aid calls. He reported that the average ambulance call lasts three hours and 13 minutes while a fire call averages two hours and 45 minutes.
The month of June saw more than $63,000 in building activity in the Village of Brockport, according to Code Enforcement Officer Scott Zarnstorff. Year to date figures total more than $3.7 million in new construction within the village, he said.
Zarnstorff said he has been working on inspecting multi-family dwellings in an attempt to get them up to code. "Were working diligently on getting through as many of these properties as we can before the fall semester starts," he said.
During June, 220 individual inspections were performed, he said. The inspections included building compliance, code compliance and fire safety compliance issues.
