Troop 53 scout earns Eagle rank

Boy Scout Troop 53 honored David Zambuto for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at the United Methodist Church in Churchville on June 8, to acknowledge his achievements.

David's brother, Peter (also an Eagle scout) was Master of Ceremonies. Troop 53's Scoutmaster, Jeff Small, made the opening remarks.

In order to achieve the Eagle rank, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, including 12 of which are required; serve actively in a troop leadership position; plan, develop and carry out a service project worthy of an Eagle Scout and appear before a board of review of prominent persons and satisfy them that you have done your best to live up to the Scout Oath and Law.

David has been involved with scouting since joining Cub Scout Pack 292 in 1992, joining Troop 94 in 1995 and finally, Troop 53 in 1996. He has held positions of Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. He earned 21 merit badges and received the Order of the Arrow. His Eagle Project was to put up 50 Kestrel Nesting boxes for RG&E. They had to be mounted on poles 10 feet high, labeled and recorded so they could be checked for nesting at a later time.

David has been on the highest and high honor roll lists at Churchville-Chili's middle, junior and senior high schools. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the Foreign Language Honor Society and the Business Honor Society. He volunteered as a "Big Brother" at Churchville Elementary School. David attended the New Vision's Emerging Professions course where he was a part-time student at SUNY Brockport as well as doing an internship at PC Innovations. He is also employed part-time at Wegmans.

A resident of Ogden, he is the son of Peter and Nancy Zambuto of Brewerton Drive. He plans to attend Monroe Community College in the fall.
