Boston University awarded academic degrees to 5,174 students this spring. Among the graduates was Hilton resident Elizabeth A. Egbert, who received a bachelor of science degree in communication.


Area students named to the Niagara University academic dean's list for the spring 2002 semester include the following. Ryanne Fullerton, Thistlewood Lane, Spencerport; Ryan Perry, Stony Point Road, Spencerport; Mary Ellen Uschold, Hiawatha Trail, Spencerport; Joseph Nyiri, Ballard Avenue, Spencerport; Julie Szymanowicz, Sheldon Terrace, Spencerport; and Kayce Kehoe, Canal Road, Spencerport.


Danielle O'Mara, a senior at Bishop Kearney High School, has been selected to serve as a Peer Minister for the 2002-2003 school year.

Bishop Kearney seniors apply each year to become peer ministers. Between 25-30 seniors are selected each year. Peer ministers participate in school retreats serving as lectors as well as Eucharistic ministers at liturgies. These seniors also establish a close relationship with 9th grade students through weekly meetings that offer support, discuss issues, and encourage self-esteem.


Jessica Underwood, of Clarkson, graduated cum laude, from St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York, May 19, with a dual bachelor of science degree in psychology and Spanish.

Underwood was director of the Dance Ensemble; director of the Spanish Writing Center; a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi; and a member of the Kappa Delta Sigma Sorority. Underwood will be attending a graduate college at New York University, Manhattan, in the fall, majoring in bilingual counseling.


Emily Ruth Caton of Spencerport was named to the dean's list for the spring 2002 semester at The Johns Hopkins University. To be selected for this honor, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Emily Ruth Caton is the daughter of Scott and Bonnie Caton and attended E.J. Wilson High School in Spencerport.

She is majoring in an arts and sciences pre-major and is expected to graduate in May 2005.


David John Roehrig of Rochester graduated this spring from The Johns Hopkins University.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dana Roehrig and attended McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester.

He majored in natural sciences.


Dereck Wischmeyer, a freshman in the school of business at Duquesne University, was named to the 2002 spring term dean's list.

He is the son of Eric and Anne Marie Wischmeyer of Spencerport.

The dean's list recognizes full-time students who have maintained at least a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C.


Air Force Cadet David C. Caswell has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

Senior cadets have the opportunity to serve as academy cadet officers who provide leadership, motivation and direction for the cadet wing and demonstrate effective officership in support of unit mission objectives.

The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships, while others go directly to non-rated Air Force-wide assignments.

The officer is scheduled to attend undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Columbus, Mississippi.

Caswell received a degree in biology. He is the son of Gene and Pamela Caswell of Brick Schoolhouse Road, Hilton and a 1998 graduate of Hilton Central High School.


Army Pvt. Adam W. Clarke has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

He is the son of William J. Clarke of Cedar Circle, Spencerport and is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.
