Spencerport wins Crosstown Baseball Championship
Spencerport won the Crosstown League Baseball Playoff Championship with a 7 to 1 victory over Greece on July 30 on the Spencerport varsity field. The team of 16 year olds finished in first place during the regular season with a record of 13 wins and only one loss followed by three straight wins in the playoffs. The other teams in the league were Greece, Hamlin, Caledonia, Bergen, Chili, and two teams from Brockport.
Tom Rosignolo and Nick Minnuni provided outstanding defense as the team's catchers. Andy Hart and Matt Miller did a fine job at first base while Brian Conlon and Jerry Pucillo were solid at second base. Keith Nobles and Chris Daily provided gold glove defense at third base and shortstop. Jeromy Andrea, Joe Zaccaria, Shawn Curley and Jason Strollo formed the most solid outfield in the league. Matt Miller and Chris Daily were the two aces of the pitching staff as they combined for four shutouts including a no-hitter. With a team batting average of .328 and an earned run average of 1.68 the team was unstoppable, according to coaches and representatives.
Leading the way in the championship game was Tom Rosignolo with a double, triple and four runs batted in. Nick Minnuni, Keith Nobles and Brian Conlon each drove in a run. Chris Daily and Matt Miller provided another solid pitching performance. The play of the game was a spectacular running catch in the left field by Shawn Curley in a critical situation. Many spectators at the game commented that they had never seen such a great catch at this level of play.
The team, which is part of the Spencerport Junior Baseball program, was coached by Chris Daily, Mark Minnuni, Russ Conlon and Gene Rosignolo.
