Lumberjack Festival marks 20 years
The Macedon Center Community Lumberjack Festival, 20 years old this year, will feature 46 men and women from all over New York state. The festival will be held September 7-8 at the Macedon Center Firemen's Field on Canandaigua Road.
Gates will open both days at 8 a.m. Saturday competitions begin at 9 a.m. with log rolling, followed by two-man crosscut, chain sawing, bow sawing, and log chopping. Sunday events begin at 11 a.m. with the same schedule. The top ten point getters will compete in tree felling following the log chop. Total prize money is $2,000.
The famous Greased Pole Climb will begin both days at 5 p.m. First place wins $250. Teams comprised of four people dressed in clothes they won't want to wear again are invited to climb the shortening covered pole.
Craft and commercial exhibitors, showcasing products from homemade crafts to woodcarvers to band saws as well as food booths offer added attractions. A pancake breakfast is offered on Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.; Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. ($4 adults, $3.50 for senior citizens, $3 for children 5-12 and under 5 are free.)
"Come as you are" church services will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The festival is sponsored by the Macedon Center United Methodist Church, The Macedon Center Fire Department, and the Macedon Historical Society. Admission is $2 for adults, senior citizens $1.50, children 6-14 $1 and 5 and under are free. For information call 315-986-3732.
