Big Band and American music featured at SUNY Brockport
Bud DeTar's Big Band and the RPO Woodwind Quintet perform
The Bud DeTar Big Band will open the SUNY College at Brockport fall season of events with "The Piano and Jazz," toasting the renovation of the college's concert grand on Friday, September 6.
Then there will be a slight shift in mood from swing to celebration when the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's Woodwind Quintet captures the essence of our nation with "The American Spirit in Music," Friday, September 13.
Both concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in the Tower Fine Arts Theatre, Holley Street. Tickets are $7 general/$5 students and seniors, and are available at the Tower Fine Arts Box Office: 585-395-ARTS.
DeTar's band will play all-time favorites made popular by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and other names synonymous with the best that jazz has to offer. The RPO Woodwind Quintet, with Rebecca Gilbert on flute, Anna Hendrickson on oboe, Robert DiLutis on clarinet, Charles Bailey on bassoon and Dietrich Hemann on French horn, will feature works by American composers and will premiere a fanfare for woodwinds.
The concerts are just the beginning of a stellar season presented by SUNY Brockport's School of Arts and Performance. For a complete listing of music, theatre, dance and arts events, contact the Tower Fine Arts Box Office at (585) 395-ARTS.
