Clarkson's Lumberjack and Lumberjill Days deemed a success
A little bit of rain and overcast skies didn't put a damper on the sawing, chopping, music, food, auction and much more that went into Clarkson's first annual Lumberjack Day and Supervisor Paul Kimball said it was "awesome."
Kimball said at any given time there were probably more than 500 people on hand to watch the events, partake of the food, enjoy the children's activities and place their bids on silent auction items during Clarkson Good Neighbor Day August 24. "I think we doubled our traffic from last year's event," he said. "The day was a huge success and everyone I talked with urged us to have it again next year."
There were more than 33 lumberjacks and lumberjills on hand to compete in the 14 planned events and competitions. Kimball said the competitors, who came from nearby areas, were happy to have an event so close to home. "They said they were impressed with the venue we had put together and with how smoothly the day went."
Two women made the trek to the event from East Aurora, Kimball said, and they told him they had a great time and urged him to have the festival again the following year.
The silent auction raised more than $1,100 which Kimball said is used to help defray the cost of the festival. He said the children's entertainment tent was filled all day and he estimates more than 500 were on hand for the grand finale fireworks that closed out the day.
