CC school starts school year with new name
At its August 13 meeting, the Churchville-Chili Board of Education passed a resolution renaming the Churchville-Chili Middle School to the Churchville-Chili Intermediate School. This name change will coincide with the opening of the remodeled school for the first day of school on September 4.
In September 1999, the Churchville-Chili Middle School opened to accommodate grades five and six. Previously, this school housed fifth-sixth-and seventh-graders. A study conducted during the 1998/1999-school year recommended the seventh-grade move to the junior high school, sharing some middle school facilities.
During the 2000-2001 school year, a Middle School Transition Committee was formed to examine the school structure as well as school practices for students in grades 5 and 6. The committee reviewed research regarding this age group and recommendations were presented to faculty. With the implementation of these instructional and conduct recommendations, the school no longer resembles a middle school, according to school representatives. In June of 2002, the staff unanimously approved the proposal to change the school name to Churchville-Chili Intermediate School.
