Swimmers medalists at Empire Games

The Empire State Games were held in Syracuse, from July 31 to August 4. This was the 25th Anniversary of the games, and, commemorative medals, gold, silver and bronze, were given to the top 3 finishers in each event of the three divisions. Betty Dunn and Irene D'Agostino, both from Brockport, swam in the masters division, for Niagara District.

Irene D'Agostino swam six events in the Burnett Park, 50 meter pool, in the two day meet. She placed first in the 200, 400 and 1500 meter freestyle, the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke and second in the 100 meter freestyle. After the games, she took a break and flew to California to visit her four children.

Betty Dunn swam five events in the 50 meter pool and received a gold medal in the 50, 100 and 200 meter butterfly, the 400 meter individual medley and a silver medal in the 100 meter backstroke. Her next competition is the Masters Nationals in late August in Cleveland, Ohio.
