Park Ridge Hospital displays memorial to Sept. 11

What began as an empty stretcher dedicated to the victims of September 11 has become a moving memorial that includes flags, pins, stickers, and flowers from EMS personnel.

Shortly after September 11 of last year, Myles Lynch, a registered nurse at the Park Ridge Emergency Department, placed an empty stretcher outside the Emergency Department with a note that read: “To our fellow emergency personnel, rescuers, and the victims for whom their stretchers wait … Empty. Our hearts and our prayers are with you.”

To honor the one year anniversary of the attacks, the same stretcher is now in the waiting room of the Emergency Department and honors all local emergency personnel. The intent of the tribute is to display the unity and interdependence of all personnel in the emergency services community. No part of this community can function without the others, just as no single department in the hospital can function without the rest, according to hospital personnel.
