National Hunting and Fishing Day -Avon style
September 28 and 29 are days of celebration for outdoor enthusiasts as they flock to the Avon area. The occasion, the National Hunting and Fishing Day weekend festival, at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Avon Office located on Route 5/20, half way between East Avon and Lima. Recent years have seen 10,000 to 20,000 people attending. This is the 28th annual gathering at Avon. Each day runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
National Hunting and Fishing Day is a day set aside to recognize the contributions that hunters and anglers have made, and continue to make, to ensure proper conservation of our outdoor environment and, in particular, our wildlife resources.
Activities will consist of exhibits and demonstrations dealing with hunting and fishing, fish and wildlife management, outdoor arts and crafts and other outdoor pursuits in addition to a 70+/- vendor, sportsmen's flea market.
People attending the event are of all ages and from all over western New York state, and beyond. The event is free.
