Run for the apples
Hilton-Parma Recreation is preparing for the 24th Annual Apple Derby/Merkel 5-Mile Run scheduled for Saturday morning, October 5. The traditional certified course, which begins at the high school and finishes at Canning Street Square, will be utilized; and this year, seven male and female champion categories have been established. Similar to past races, all runners will receive the specially designed Apple Derby Run shirt and a winners cup which depicts all the past champions and their times.
Hilton Big M will again offer the $500 challenge which pays $250 to the male or female which breaks the course record and finishes ahead of their respective competitors. John Luther (25:02) holds the male record from a race in 1984, and Linda Grossman (29:10) the female record from 1998.
