Call to Holiness events scheduled at St. Jude's Church
The first Call to Holiness Conference is to be held Friday, September 27, Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 4100 Lyell Avenue, Rochester. There will be a dinner on Friday, September 27 at RIT Inn & Conference Center, 5257 West Henrietta Road, Henrietta.
The conference will be highlighted by feature speakers Father Pablo Straub, C.S.S.R. and journalist and author Michael S. Rose, and by a concert performed by Catholic singer and songwriter Donna Cori Gibson.
Father Pablo Straub is a missionary priest of the Redemptorist order. He was ordained in the Hudson Valley in 1958. He spent twenty years evangelizing throughout Puerto Rico prior to his last eighteen years of work in rural Mexico. In Mexico, he is helping found two new contemplative and missionary religious orders, one of men and one of women. Father Straub conducts missions, retreats, and Marian Eucharistic conferences throughout the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala. He can also be seen evangelizing on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and Mexican Catholic Television.
Michael Rose is the author of three books: Goodbye, Good Men; Ugly as Sin; and The Renovation Manipulation. During the past seven years, he has served as editor of "St. Joseph Messenger" and "St. Catherine Review." He has also written numerous articles, editorials, and essays that have appeared in several periodicals. At the conference, he will be speaking on his recent book, Goodbye, Good Men.
Donna Cori Gibson is a singer of Catholic contemporary music who shares her music via Golden Arrow Music Ministries in Catholic parishes and conferences. She can be heard on Catholic radio stations across the nation and through appearances on EWTN. Donna's music is composed of songs from prayers and is focused on explaining the eternal truths of the Catholic faith with Scripture.
The conference will open on Friday evening with a dinner at the RIT Inn & Conference Center, where Father Straub will be the keynote speaker. Father Straub will celebrate Mass at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Jude's. On Sunday, he will be the celebrant at the noon Mass and Father John Steger will be the homilist. Father Pablo will be the homilist at most of the other Sunday Masses. Scheduled time for the Sacrament of Penance/Confession will be available. The Conference will also offer devotions which include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, Enrollment of the Brown Scapular, a procession, and the rosary sung by Donna Cori Gibson.
