MCC dedicates Remembrance Walk
Local business and civic leaders joined Monroe Community College to dedicate the September 11 Remembrance Walk on the college's Brighton Campus on Wednesday, September 11. The memorial honors the thousands of victims who perished in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania during last year's terrorist attacks.
The memorial consists of a walkway and a monument, made of concrete and steel, reflecting the New York City skyline. Two voids within the monument, representing the World Trade Center Towers, align with the sun and cast light upon two white concrete forms within the walkway each September 11 at 8:45 a.m. A plaque within the monument refers to all the events and lives touched during the attacks.
Rochester Chief of Police Bob Duffy, an MCC alumnus, served as keynote speaker and recalled a New York Port Authority colleague who lost his life during the terrorist attacks. Over 400 guests attended the ceremony.
