District Governor
visits Holley Rotary
The Holley Rotary Club recently hosted a visit from their District Governor Joseph DePaolo.
The Holley club is part of District 7090, which extends from Holley in the east to Jamestown in the southwest, and Buffalo in the west, The district also includes clubs in Ontario, Canada. There it extends as far north as Hamilton and Ancaster.
The club leader delivered the message of Rotary International President Bhichai Rattakul of Thailand and shared with the Holley Rotarians that it is not the size of the club that is important, but rather what it accomplishes. He also shared that it is the individual Rotarians who are the important members. It is they who make possible the accomplishments of Rotary throughout the local community and the world.
The District Governor praised the Holley club for its local accomplishments. These include annual scholarships for graduating seniors, monthly contributions to the local food pantry, sponsorship of local youth for summer camps, awarding annually of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (which include a week long leadership training institute), local highway adoption and the sponsoring each Christmas of local needy families.
Governor Joseph also complimented the club on its contributions to Rotary's Polio Plus campaign. Rotary International has been trying to eliminate polio since 1987. That year saw over 350,000 new cases of polio throughout the world. As of June 20, 2002, there were only 108 new cases of polio. Although the end is in sight, according to the Governor, Rotarians still have much work to do to eradicate this disease.
