Brockport CSD Transportation Director
earns master certification
Joseph LaMarca, director of transportation at the Brockport Central School District, completed an intense one-week master certification course through the New York State Education Department and the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute in Syracuse over the summer. LaMarca is now one of 50 Master School Bus Driver Instructors throughout New York state.
Only a select few school bus safety instructors are admitted into the certification course. Instructors must have extensive experience in training school bus drivers and giving presentations on a variety of safety topics.
The course focused on further improving instructional skills, preparing the candidates to teach annual in-service seminars, and developing curriculum for the over 1,000 State Education Department-certified School Bus Driver Instructors (SBDI's) in the state. SBDI's provide most of the required training for New York state school bus drivers, including the basic course for new bus drivers, the advanced course for veteran bus drivers, and the annual refresher course for all bus drivers. SBDI's and master instructors work under the direction of the State Education Department and are the driving force behind New York state's outstanding school bus safety record.
