Sunday program on genealogy
at Ogden Farmers' Library Oct. 13
The Ogden Farmers' Library and the Western Monroe County Genealogical Society (WMCGS) will present the final program in the 2002 Genealogy Sunday series on October 13 from noon to 4 p.m. The library will be open exclusively for people doing genealogical or historical research. Library staff and members of the WMCGS will be on hand to answer questions and help those interested get started on research. The Ogden Farmers' Library collection includes resources such as plat maps of Monroe County towns and villages from 1902 and 1924; maps of Ogden and Spencerport from 1858 and on; cemetery records for Ogden, Parma, Greece, Clarkson and other towns and villages in Monroe County; census records for Monroe County from 1790 to 1930.
In addition, the library subscribes to the online databases Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com and has an extensive collection of microfilm and genealogy software. At 2 p.m. Cynthia Howk of the Landmark Society will speak on how to research the history of a home or of buildings in general. She will discuss resources available through the Landmark Society and strategies to use to learn more about a house.
