Palumbo, Clar lead Saints
Juniors Eric Palumbo and Jim Clar had 32 kills as Churchville-Chili remained unbeaten in league play with a 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17 win over Brockport in boys volleyball September 23.
The Saints never trailed in the first game, capped by Clar serving the final four points of the game. In game two, Randy Matthews and Phil Smith registered kills as the Saints spread the wealth during a 19-11 run at the end of the game.
The Blue Devils showed their character in their third game victory highlighted by a 7-1 run midway through the game including an ace by Chris Masiello. But the Saints put the match away as Palumbo knocked down three key kills and Matthews finished the match with a dunk shot for the final point.
"Its difficult because all of the players are friends from playing together all summer," said Brockport Head Coach Lisa Jackson. "I wasnt happy with how flat we came out in the first two games, but I am proud of the way they got it together in the third game."
Saints Head Coach Joe Eschberger said, "Its tough every time we play them so I wouldnt say this was easy. Its us, them and Spencerport in the west and well probably be seeing them later down the road."
Palumbo led all players with 19 kills with Clar adding 13. Setters Colin Dooling and Chris Shekell combined for 47 assists in the match for the Saints who raised their record to 7-0 league, 8-1 overall. Phil St. Amant led the Blue Devils, 6-2, 6-2, with 16 kills and 6 digs while Devin Hogan had 31 assists.
