Volunteers will raise wall for medical office re-creation
Dr. Samuel Beach Bradley's 1825 medical office is scheduled to rise again on the morning of Saturday, October 19 when students from Roberts Wesleyan College will join interested neighbors in a wall raising at the Parma Museum, 460 Parma Center Road, Hilton.
Spearheaded by Donald Cox, the project to move and rebuild the office on the museum ground was begun in the summer of 2001 when the remnants of the office were moved from Hoosick to Parma Center.
Cox has spent the summer rebuilding the office's four sections with authentic materials which he gathered form other buildings of similar age. Still needed is a Bible and Cross door, some new shingles and clapboards. Costs of other project materials have been subsidized by Friends of the Parma Meetinghouse Museum.
Anyone who can assist with the wall raising can contact Cox or Parma's town historian, Shirley Husted, at 392-3410. About 30 helpers will be needed to help raise the four sections into place, Cox believes.
Dr. Bradley was a state assemblyman and school commissioner, also held other political offices in addition to his work as a physician servicing families in Parma, Greece, Gates and Ogden. He delivered over 1,000 infants during his career here.
