Strong Museum new home of National Toy Hall of Fame®

Strong Museum has become the official home of the National Toy Hall of Fame®, a showcase for honored toys that have achieved longevity and national significance in the world of play and imagination.

Established in 1998 by A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village, a children's museum in Salem, Oregon, the National Toy Hall of Fame® immediately garnered major national media attention.

"The National Toy Hall of Fame® gives us a valuable new tool for extending our interpretive mission and increasing our visibility and attendance. Because the hall of fame has a growing national reputation, it will enhance public awareness of Strong Museum regionally and nationally," said G. Rollie Adams, president and CEO of Strong Museum. "And when the museum completes its planned expansion, the hall will serve as the gateway to the museum's entire world-renowned collection. As such, it will contribute not only to the growth of Strong Museum, but also to the attractiveness of Rochester as a tourist destination." To date, the National Toy Hall of Fame® includes 26 honorees: Legos®, the teddy bear, marbles, Play-Doh®, Monopoly®, Frisbee®, Etch-A-Sketch®, Erector Set®, Crayola Crayons®, Tinker Toys®, Barbie®, roller skates, Lincoln Logs®, Hula-Hoop®, The Red WagonTM, Duncan Yo-Yo®, View-Master®, Mr. Potato Head®, the jump rope, jacks, the bicycle, Slinky®, Tonka® trucks, Silly Putty®, Raggedy AnnTM, and the jigsaw puzzle.

Strong Museum, located in downtown Rochester's East End neighborhood, is open Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Admission for adults is $6; seniors and students with ID $5; children (2-17) $5; children younger than two, free; Strong Museum members free. Special reduced admission, greeting, and group orientation available to booked adult groups of twenty or more.
