Rangers win second tournament
The Spencerport Rangers boy's soccer team won their second tournament of the year by beating the Brockport Blue Devils 1-0 in the finals of the Spencerport Tournament. Mike Placito scored the winning goal on a pass from Tom Graham with 23 minutes remaining in the first half. Drew Hopkins recorded his first shutout by making seven saves to give the Rangers the championship. The Rangers were led defensively by seniors Chris Cornwell, Beau Gringer, Marc Ramos, Jesse Reichert and sophomore Chris Somers.
The Rangers reached the finals by beating Hilton 4-1. Nick Droegmoeller scored three goals and Chris Somers added the final goal for Spencerport.
The Rangers won their season opening game by beating Churchville-Chili 1-0 on a goal headed in by Beau Gringer with 34 minutes remaining to put the Rangers into the finals of the Hilton Tournament. In the finals, Tom Graham scored on a header off a corner kick by Beau Gringer 12 minutes into the game to give the Rangers the championship over Greece Olympia. Alex Kilroy recorded his second straight shutout.
The Rangers will be heading into the final week of the season with games on Tuesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. at Hilton and Thursday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. against Brighton in their final regular season home game. The Rangers have put forth a great effort this year while starting five sophomores and six seniors.
Their overall record is 7-6-2 with a league record of 4-3-2.
