Churchville Lions plan Halloween parade
Hundreds of Scooby-Doos, Barbie Princesses and a Spiderman or two will march up Main Street in Churchville on October 31 when the Churchville Lions Club treats area youth to its annual costume parade and Halloween party.
"It's great for the kids," said Churchville Lion Dave Baker, adding that the Lions really enjoy putting the event on every year.
The parade starts at the clock in the municipal parking lot at 6:30 p.m., and ends in the Church Lodge in Churchville Park.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel from the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department volunteer their time to make sure the event is a safe one. "A fire truck leads the parade, and then stops at the bridge and puts its light on the parking lot," Baker said, showing the kids the way to the Lodge.
Once inside, kids and parents are treated to bags of candy prepared by Lions, and cider and donuts, all purchased by the Lions Club.
High-population density being a timeless trick-or-treater draw, the Halloween parade can be very convenient, and the goal is to get the kids in and out quickly. "They do the parade up the hill, we give them their candy, and then they can really hit up the village," Baker said.
More than 250 kids participated last year, according to Baker, and he said he hopes this year will be bigger and better than ever.
