Spencerport Canal Days Committee
gives to the community
Every few years when the surplus builds up in the Spencerport Canal Days treasury, the Committee agrees to donate some of their funds to a worthwhile cause or causes in the community. The last donation was used for a new pavilion in Pineway Ponds Park. Patrick Hotchkiss, outgoing director of this event, said the committee is very appreciative of the support and financial contributions from the community and is very pleased to be able to return that support for many to enjoy.
This year, the committee voted to donate to several commendable projects. The Town of Ogden will be receiving funds totaling $2,600 to be allocated towards historical road signs. The town historian has indicated a need for refurbishing two signs, and for adding signs that will depict the historical significance of the canal.
The Village of Spencerport will receive $2,000 toward a flagpole to be installed in front of the village office, and the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance will be the recipient of $5,000 towards the purchase of a new "Fly-Car," to replace the current eight year-old vehicle.
