Kendall graduate to make solo debut
with Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra
Class of '99 Kendall graduate Jillian Pritchard will make her solo debut with the Rochester Philharmonic on November 3 in the Eastman Theater at 2 p.m. as part of a Casual Sunday Matinee Series concert highlighting some of the Eastman School of Music's leading musicians.
To become eligible for this honor, Pritchard first performed and competed to become one of the handful of undergraduate and graduate students to be nominated for the prestigious Performer's Certificate by Eastman faculty members. Then faculty members chose the best of these nominees to compete and play for a panel of RPO musicians and conductor, Jeff Tyzik.
Pritchard studies percussion with John Beck (Eastman School of Music Professor of Percussion and recently retired RPO Timpanist). She is pursuing a bachelor of music degree with a double major in music performance and education, and is enrolled in the Arts Leadership Certificate Program, focusing on arts administration and orchestral management. She has also been nominated to receive the Performer's Certificate, and is a recipient of the Avedis Zildjian Percussion Award and the Howard Hanson Scholarship. In 1999, she received first place for percussion in the Ithaca College High School Solo Competition, and was runner-up in the 2000 Rochester Philharmonic League's Concerto Competition.
Pritchard performs with the Rochester Philharmonic and Buffalo Philharmonic as a section percussionist, and is a member of the RPO Marimba Band. In high school she was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and was chosen to perform in several regional and all-state ensembles.
General admission seating is $10.
