Ithaca College has awarded Fred L. Emerson Foundation scholarships to 237 outstanding students for the 2002-03 academic year. Selection was based on a combination of level of need, superior academic performance, and significant contributions to the extracurricular life of the college.

Among area residents were:

  • Julie Doherty '03, Gillett Road, Ogden, a journalism major and graduate of Spencerport High School.
  • Angela DeFelice '03, Peachey Road, Bergen, a planned studies (bachelor of science) major and graduate of Byron-Bergen High School.
  • James Wolan '03, East Buffalo Street, Churchville, TV-radio major and a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.
  • Mary Rogers '03, Westphal Drive, Hamlin, sports studies major and a graduate of Hilton High School.
  • Brandon Steinorth '03, Rolling Meadow Drive, Hilton, a social studies (7-12) major and a graduate of Hilton High School.

Army National Guard Pfc. Nickolas P. Islev has graduated from the petroleum supply specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Virginia.

Islev is the son of Norman P. Islev of County Line Road, Brockport and Vikki A. Kolb of Carolina Street, Rochester.

The private graduated in 1998 from Holley High School, and received an associate's degree in 2000 from Monroe Community College.
