Hilton Senior Citizens get help with Fall Faire
Senior Citizen Emma Nordhausen, center, takes a chance at "Go Fish" at the Hilton-Parma Senior Center's Fall Faire held on October 21 at the Hilton Community Center. From left are Hilton High School National Honor Society student volunteer, Sarah Mesh; H-P Senior Director Tracy LaFountain, Mrs. Nordhausen; and Village Elementary School fifth grade volunteer Ryan Sengillo. "We're celebrating fall," LaFountain, the new senior center director, said, "but we're also celebrating the links between the kids and the seniors. We've heard many of the seniors say they enjoyed it so much, that maybe we'll make it an annual event." Students from teacher Jennifer Brock's class prepared to host the games that were prepared by H-P Senior Center staff including Kevin Fonda, student intern in Recreation Management from SUNY Brockport. From "The Puzzler: Wheel of Trivia" to "Mug Shot" and "Beat the Dealer: 21," elementary students ran the games while Hilton High School student volunteers accompanied some of the seniors who may have needed help. Among the seniors getting her "mug shot" in a cutout display was Pat Connors who commented, "These kids - everyone of them - are so polite and nice. And this is what most kids are like - good kids and they treat you like a grandmother." LaFountain is a 1989 Hilton High School graduate and holds a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from SUNY Brockport.
