Library offers book hold options for patrons
Patrons of the Newman Riga Library need to be advised that remote holds are available once again. "After a wealth of publicity indicating that services were being cut for patrons, we are finding it difficult to make people aware of the fact that such services are now restored," says Donna Haire, librarian director. Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle's 2003 budget which was released on October 8 provided an additional $200,000 to the library's budget to restore Saturday hours at the Central library and remote patron placed holds service, Haire says. These services were reinstated on October 18.
Unfortunately, the amount restored was not sufficient to cover all costs associated with patron placed holds and the $.50 fee will remain in effect for all holds. There remains a limit of 10 holds per person. Nonbook media is once again eligible for interlibrary loan within the Monroe County library system. In addition, though Saturday hours have been restored, hour reductions in the Children's Center and the Local History Divisions will remain in effect.
Those with questions can contact the Newman Riga Library during regular business hours at 293-2009.
