Trail sweepers
The Adopt-A-Trail Committee of the Town of Sweden conducted its second annual end-of-season "sweep" of the Erie Canal towpath on Saturday, October 26. About 60 volunteers have participated in the program this year, including about 25 in the sweep. They performed more than 250 hours of service on the canal bank, especially litter control. The project is being organized statewide by the New York Canalway Trails Association and the NYS Canal Corporation. Locally, the Town of Sweden is the official sponsor, in cooperation with the Village of Brockport. Bill Andrews is the coordinator. The local participating groups are the Brockport High School Girls' Swim Team, the First Presbyterian Church, the Brockport Garden Club, the Brockport History Club, the Middle School Retirees, the Walks and Talks, the Brockport Federal Credit Union, and the Coffee Cup Campers. Each group has been assigned a section of the canal path for policing and is expected to make at least one cleanup walk a month during the canal season.
