New family show at RMSC Planetarium
Winter fun returns to the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium with a new family show, "Holiday Songs and Skies with Mr. Jack Frost," opening the Friday after Thanksgiving and running through New Year's Day.
In this program, Mr. Frost is right at home in the crunchy show as he conducts a tour of the constellations of winter, sprinkled with astronomical "did-you-knows," corny space jokes and well-loved holiday songs of broad appeal, choreographed to colorful laser light.
In response to audience comments from previous years, "Holiday Songs and Skies with Mr. Jack Frost" will feature music from the festive, public side of the holiday season. Songs will include "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, "Winter" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley, "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, and other favorites.
In English folklore, Jack Frost is the mischievous personification of winter weather. He is rarely if ever seen, but he makes his presence known by nipping at the fingers and toes of those who venture outside in cold weather. He paints beautiful frost patterns on windows.
The voice of Mr. Frost will introduce some of the most prominent stars and constellations of the season, including Orion, Sirius, Taurus, the Pleiades and Cassiopeia, using the magnificent indoor sky created by the Zeiss star projector.
Show times for "Holiday Songs and Skies with Mr. Jack Frost" are: November 30 through December 29: Saturdays at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. and November 29, December 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31 and January 1 at 1 p.m.
The admission for "Holiday Songs and Skies With Mr. Jack Frost" is: adults $5, students and seniors $4, and RMSC members $3. Discounted combination ticketing available for the museum with ticket purchase.
