Spencerport's UCC Church hires new pastor
After a one year endeavor, the nine member Search Committee of the Spencerport U.C.C. Church (The White Church) has located a new pastor to lead the congregation. On Sunday, October 20 Rev. John Dennis Vertigan was chosen, via a unanimous vote, according to the church's by-laws by the congregation to serve as the church's next pastor.
Rev. Vertigan has been the pastor of three churches since 1987. He comes to Spencerport from Corning, New York, where he has been the pastor of a U.C.C. church for the past six years.
The new church leader has a strong vision for the direction of the church, and is extremely interested in working with the youth, according to representatives of the congregation.
John, his wife Susan and their daughter Ally will be moving to Spencerport in mid December. He will begin as "The White Church's" pastor on January 1, 2003. The family will reside in the newly renovated parsonage, adjacent to the church. John Vertigan replaces the Pastor Frank Nicholas, who served as interim pastor.
The members of the church invite the community to come and hear one of Rev. Vertigan's sermons, and to meet him and his family, any Sunday after the first of the year.
